Email Campaigns

Since Moonbase already tracks customer newsletter statuses, and syncs these with external platforms, we want to build a way to also send email blasts from within Moonbase. We can also use the segmentation that already exists to support targeted campaigns for subsets of customers. A simple email builder will be needed to support outgoing emails, custom HTML will not be part of this feature to begin with. Custom sending domains will be required for merchants to use the feature.

Customer input on this: when segmenting customers for campaigns, it would be helpful to be able to filter customers by:

    • Active users (recently had a license validation)

    • Users on a specific version (based on licensing telemetry)

I agree with this especially segmenting based on version

Being able to target users of specific plugins or with specific downloads (e.g. all mac users) would also be highly appreciated!

As part of Moonbase (or Klaviyo) Email Campaigns, or additional webhooks, would you be able to develop an email trigger for abandoned cart email reminders?

Yeah, that’s the main idea! It will likely come as part of the Marketing Automations feature, since it needs to react to live data coming in. If we get a Klayvio integration going before then, it’s highly likely that it would also support abandoned carts. We tried making this work with Mailerlite, since they have an e-commerce feature, but it was not flexible enough, hoping Klayvio will be.

Can we import a list of subscribers who don't have an account?

Yes, it’s likely we’ll make a change to how customers work in Moonbase, when we build this. Currently, a Moonbase customer is practically an account, a user login, but with this change we will distinguish between customers that have a login, and those who don’t (maybe they just subscribed to the newsletter, and will sign up later). This will then also bleed into our import tooling, which will accept importing customers that don’t have a login, they just need to be tracked.

Will you be providing the email sending service for this or can we send through our own mailer like an AWS SES subscription?

Interesting question! What would be your main reason for wanting this?

I think for the initial version, we probably won’t support it, but SES would be the most likely candidate to support down the line, since it’d be fairly easy to set up cross-account notifications. For us, it’s really important to get feedback from outgoing emails, to correctly handle bounces and other issues.

I was just curious what the setup will be. As long as I can use a custom domain and the limits/costs are on par or better than SES I don’t mind what the backend is.

Got it! We’ll most likely go for a pricing model similar to SES, where we bill by the email sent instead of subscriber count or anything else, so I hope you’ll find it very attractive compared to other options. Appreciate the feedback!

I have a related use case for mobile marketing flows that could be built on email campaigns. Please see:
